Description

The new 65 Gal. (245lt) Compost Tumbler by Maze transforms leftover waste and garden refuse into a rich, nutrient-dense compost with next to no effort at all.

A key feature is the two compartments which means you never stop composting. When the first compartment is full, you start on the second compartment. Once this side is full the first side is ready to empty, and the cycle continues. The strongly reinforced barrel has been UV protected and contains multiple air vents to promote aerobic decomposition. The large opening and sliding doors allow for the easy addition of waste and collection of ready compost.

A very unique feature is the gear and handles which ensures easier turning of the drum and the geared ratchet will automatically lock rotation in any position. The frame is powder-coated zinc and its open front design allows for easy access for the collection of ready-to-use compost from the barrel with plenty of room for a compost cart or bucket to slide in underneath. By rotating the door to face down you are able to slide the door open and let the compost fall into the cart.

Developed and designed in Australia by Maze, the new 65 Gal. (245lt) Tumbler is sure to take care of all your composting needs for a very long time.

JUST FINISHED PUTTING THE 245LT MAZE COMPOST TUMBLER TOGETHER IN 2 HOURS WITH THE HELP OF MY FATHER. TOOK US A BIT TO GET STARTED BUT ONCE WE COMBINED THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL WITH THE YOUTUBE VIDEO IT WAS QUITE AN EASY PROCESS. SUPER SATISFIED WITH THE FINISHED PRODUCT. IT LOOKS GREAT IN OUR BACKYARD AND I CAN’T WAIT TO START COMPOSTING WITH THE FAMILY. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. WILL TRY AND DO ANOTHER REVIEW ONCE WE’VE MADE SOME COMPOST.

We’ve had a Maze Compost Tumbler for over 4 years and it’s the best composter we’ve owned. Keeps out all rodents, is easy to manage and sturdy despite harsh conditions on the farm. Over the years the tumbler’s converted all household scraps and green garden waste into good compost for use in the vegetable and ornamental gardens. When the handle broke recently we received excellent customer service with prompt delivery of the new handle. I commend Maze for this excellent composter and customer support

I bought this tumbler about 2 years ago and it became an essential item in my garden. With a little attention it processes considerable amounts of garden and kitchen waste into usable compost. In my case it takes about 4 month to harvest one compartment. The compost is ok to use, but I store it for some more month in a different bin to properly mature. The materials used to make the tumbler are ok and assembly wasn’t an issue for me. My main concern is how long the plastic parts will last under the Australian sun. Of main concern is the green coloured plastic around the doors and on the handle. It already shows signs of UV damage, becomes brittle and flakes off as microplastic. Those parts should have been made from rust free metals or at least the same more durable black plastic. Friends gave me an older model of the tumbler were I could see that eventually all that plastic will suffer UV degradation. When I filled the old one up, the sun damaged panels actually split under the weight of the content. Time will tell how long the new one lasts. Another problem is the drainage. Depending on the waste materials, water can collect in the bottom and then the compost becomes water logged and smelly. I eventually drilled extra drainage holes in the panels which solved the problem. It would be nice if more drainage holes were already drilled in the lower parts of the tumbler. Overall, I’m impressed with the tumbler and loving the fact that I can process all my organic waste and that of several other households efficiently in my small backyard.

II live on a working farm and this compost bin is the best I’ve ever used. Importantly it’s rodent proof and easy to assemble. The two compartments allow for large quantities of household scraps, garden leaves and other compostable materials to be recycled and turned into excellent compost for all areas of the garden. The handle allows easy, regular mixing of all materials in the 2 compartments, oxygenating contents to speed up the recycling process. Love the height and design of the Maze Compost Tumbler which allows me to stand and remove the compost easily into a wheelbarrow for garden use. I’ve been using my tumbler for 4 years to create many batches of compost and when I needed a replacement handle, the suppliers provided friendly and prompt customer service with the spare part organised over the phone and posted to our rural address promptly. That kind of service with such a helpful person is rare these days. Sincere thanks Maze for an excellent product and customer support!

Wonderfully engineered and designed product. Everything fit perfectly. Instructions were accurate and followable with minimal verbiage. However, still took me 3 1/2 hours to put it together from box opening to first ‘spin’. Very happy with the product.

A beautifully made product. Unlike crappy chip board furniture, all the holes lineup, all the hardware is superior quality, and it comes together so logically. Watch the assembly video on YouTube, to see it put together. It took me 1 and a half hours. Very happy with this purchase, highly recommended.

Agree with previous 5 star reviews. It took two of us 2 hours to put together – no dramas. Hopefully there won’t be any issues requiring spare parts but good to know they’re available. Really looking forward to may years of composting. The video was a great help in assembly, thank you!

We purchased the 245L Maze compost tumbler to replace a single chamber compost bin we had. The Maze product seems sturdy and well designed. We enjoyed the assembly. Assembly instructions are VERY GOOD. Far superior to various other products we’ve assembled. It takes a little time to assemble (approx. 2 hours) but thats because of a good amount of fasteners, content rich instructions and the fact I like to triple check the steps as I go.
We’ve only gone as far as transferring in the material from our old bin so it can mature. Time will tell if the unit handles the elements.

I’m thrilled with the quality of this product. It is exactly what I was looking for.
I was also thrilled to have assembled it on my own. There is a second youtube video that would have been helpful to watch prior. Just allow time to watch the videos prior and have the assembly manual on hand. You won’t be disappointed!

Instructions very comprehensive, watched the video prior to purchase (and read these comments). So yes, my brother and I put it together in about 2 hours – too easy!!
Contents will get heavy – I spin it using the external hand holds.
    Well done Maze Products!

If you don’t like flatpacks you’ll hate this assembly. After an hour or so I’m stuck on step 4. The video could have more explanation rather than cheesy music.

It is a good quality product and provides a very logical process for the average suburban household to use all of their relevant waste in an environmentally friendly manner and not simply send these items off to a green waste tip. The design really makes it quite effortless to do so and is very user friendly.

I am a 70 year old woman and I have just assembled, single-handedly, your 245L compost tumbler. I wanted to congratulate you on your assembly instructions. They are the best and clearest I have ever used.
Two features that make the compost tumbler particularly easy to use are the large doors and the turning handle.
The compost tumbler is extremely easy to use, even for an old duck like me!

I have just assembled the model that doesn’t have the handle. As someone who has just learned which end of a hammer to hold, I had to say that I got it all assembled without too much hassle. The middle divider section was the hardest and I found it best to put a support under the divider as I was trying to put it in place.

I just finished the Maze composter and put it in the yard. If I had to purchase this again, I would not because of the huge amount of assembly–not worth the headache of putting it together bit by bit. Extra parts, missing parts, chart often off. Although it looks sturdy and seems to be made of quality products, for the price you shouldn’t have to put this together bit by bit. For what is charged, at least the bin should at least come preassembled. Not worth the assembly time for the money spent.

Having purchased this for school, the time required for assembly should be noted on the exterior of the box – as I would not have purchased it on that reason alone. 2 -4 hours is ridiculous.

Only compost tumbler on the market that makes it easy to remove the resulting compost and distribute it. Other key features are that you can close entry holes that allow odours to escape and flies to enter and breed like rabbits. Internal divider makes it feasible to keep one bin for new material and the other for material that is further down the composting trail. Gardening Australia shows you how to make static composting bays that take up a lot of room and effort ignoring the reality that many users simply do not have the room to do this. Purchased this unit as my existing bins were attracting (big) rats and poison baits are not an option as rats learn to avoid these but blue tongue lizards do not. Instructions are good but the process is tedious which is unavoidable so you need to follow them meticulously. If you drop nuts into the wrong place or incorrectly oriented insert a small pair of pliers and pull the handles apart to retrieve them quickly and easily. Finally, the turning mechanism is brilliant but remember that the material will be heavy and become heavier. Getting the cart is a must as it makes removal and dispersal simple and easy. Bunnings do not stock the carts and will only supply on special order but there are other suppliers who offer better deals and quicker delivery. Watching the assembly video will clarify the instructions if you are unsure what to do.

This is a really good product, well designed and well made. The Self Assembly is not for the fainthearted, though the instructions are brilliant. I agree entirely with the comments of Robin Lamas above, about steps 8 and 9 where the AA bolts were just too short for the bulkier joints where three layers are concerned. I nearly gave up but with the aid of a fretsaw blade to push the barrel nut inwards we just got there. They should be a mm longer. Again in steps 11, 12 and 16 where Nyloc nuts were recommended, the packing was 6 short, but there was an excess of the AG nuts which appear to be adequate replacements. This could be tidied up, I think, by the manufacturer. I am very glad I bought this.

Having previously purchased a Maze Bokashi indoor composter and having had great results, I decided to go one better and add a compost tumbler to my garden toys collection. I’m very happy with the quality of the product and assembly was a breeze, taking little more than an hour. I can’t wait to start using it in my garden. My only complaint is that I had to visit three Bunnings stores to buy my tumbler even though all stores claimed to have them in stock when I rang them!

Excellent product – well engineered and manufactured. The parts are well labeled and any screw sizing is easy with the instructions. They even included some spares as well as the Allen and nut wrench. Assembly takes time but isn’t difficult. Watch the video and follow the 19 steps. I wouldn’t have wanted an assembled barrel shipped to me! High quality at a decent price when your really consider cost of materials and design. I would highly recommend to anyone.
